# What a White Label SEO Monthly Report Should Contain

A useful SEO report separates brand from non-brand traffic, connects the work to leads and revenue, and says what was done and what happens next. Rankings and estimated traffic alone can mislead a client. If you resell SEO to clients, the report is the main thing they see. Here is what it should contain.

## What should every SEO report show?

- **Search Console clicks and impressions, split into brand and non-brand.** This is the ground truth for how many people found the site through Google.
- **Which pages and queries drive non-brand growth.**
- **Leads, calls, form fills or sales from organic search,** where tracking allows.
- **Work completed this month,** in plain language.
- **Work planned for next month,** and why.
- **Issues and risks,** stated honestly.

Keep it to a few pages. A client should understand it in five minutes.

## Why separate brand and non-brand?

Brand queries are people who already know the business and are searching for it by name. They show existing awareness. Non-brand queries show whether new customers are finding you. A report that mixes the two can make a site look healthy when new-customer growth is flat.

For example, in a recent review of our own site, almost all clicks came from one country and none of the named non-brand clicks came from the markets we wanted to reach. A combined traffic total would have hidden that completely.

## Which metrics are vanity metrics?

Treat these with caution:

- **Estimated traffic from third-party tools.** These are modelled guesses, not measurements. On one client site, a reported traffic drop in a third-party graph turned out to be an artifact of the estimate. The real issue was a group of 16 state-specific page keywords falling out of the top 100, which Search Console confirmed.
- **Total keywords tracked or ranking,** without regard to whether anyone searches for them.
- **Average position on its own.** It is easy to distort and says nothing about clicks.
- **Raw sessions** that include brand, bots and irrelevant visitors.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What about queries ranking high but getting no clicks?

Report them. On one client site we found 22 queries ranking between positions 1 and 5 that received no clicks. That points to a mismatch between the search intent and the page, or to a weak title and snippet, or to a result such as a map pack that takes the clicks. It is one of the most useful findings a report can contain, because it is fixable.

### How do you report on work that has not paid off yet?

SEO often takes months to show in clicks. Be honest about it. Show leading indicators such as pages indexed, impressions growing for target queries and technical issues fixed, and clearly label them as early signs rather than results.

### How should a client-facing report differ from an internal one?

A client report should use plain language, lead with outcomes and avoid jargon. An internal report can carry more detail, such as full query lists and technical notes. Create the internal version first, then summarise it for the client.

### What should the final page say?

End every report with three things: what we learned, what we will do next, and what we need from you. That keeps the relationship active and makes the next month easier.
