# Laravel vs WordPress: Which One for Your Next Business Site or App

WordPress suits content-led websites and marketing pages. Laravel suits custom business logic, user accounts, integrations and multi-tenant applications. Many businesses need both: WordPress for the public site and Laravel for the application behind it.

## What is each one best at?

**WordPress** is a content management system. Editors can publish and change pages without a developer, and a huge ecosystem of themes and plugins covers common needs quickly.

**Laravel** is a PHP framework for building custom web applications. You get exactly the logic, data model and workflows your business needs, without working around a plugin’s assumptions.

## Which is cheaper to start, and which is cheaper to maintain?

WordPress is usually cheaper to start, especially for a standard business site, because much of what you need already exists. See [WordPress theme vs custom development](https://octakris.com/wordpress-theme-vs-custom-development-which-costs-more/)
 for how costs compare.

Maintenance depends on how the site is built. A WordPress site with many plugins needs regular updates and security attention. A custom Laravel app has fewer outside dependencies but needs developer time for every change. Neither is “free to maintain”.

## When does WordPress hit its limits?

Look for these signs:

- You are stacking many plugins to imitate application features
- Different users need different dashboards and permissions
- You need complex pricing, booking or approval workflows
- Pages are slow because the plugins fight each other
- Your data does not fit neatly into posts and pages

Our article on [five signs your website is a liability](https://octakris.com/is-your-website-a-liability-5-signs-you-need-a-custom-web-development-overhaul/)
covers more of these warning signs.

## When is Laravel the better fit?

Choose Laravel when you are building something that behaves like software: customer portals, internal tools, booking or ordering systems, or a product sold to many customers. For the last case, read about [multi-tenant architecture in Laravel.](https://octakris.com/multi-tenant-saas-laravel-single-vs-multi-database/)

## Can you use both together?

Yes, and it is often the best answer. A common set-up is a WordPress site for marketing content and a Laravel application for logins, data and business logic, linked by shared branding and single sign-on or simple links. We work on both: a WooCommerce store for retail and a multi-tenant Laravel product for restaurants are very different jobs, and each uses the tool that fits.

## How do you migrate from one to the other?

Moving from WordPress to Laravel is a rebuild of the parts that need custom logic, not a copy. Keep the content site where it is, move only the features that outgrew it, and redirect any URLs that change so you do not lose search visibility.

## How do you decide?

Ask three questions:

- Is the main job publishing content, or running a business process?
- Will non-technical staff need to edit pages often?
- Does the product need accounts, roles and custom workflows?

Content and editing point to WordPress. Processes and logic point to Laravel. A bit of both points to using both. Our [web development team](https://octakris.com/web-development/)
 can help you choose.
